Here in the United Kingdom, we are thinking so much of the people of Japan as you experience the terrible tsunami and all its consequences.
I know that amidst the tragedy there will many pregnant women, and mothers with young families affected.
We are thinking of them, and hope that with all your good work you are able to help.
I know that the White Ribbon Alliance will want to help as much as we can – please let us know what you think we can do to call on the international membership to provide support. With all good wishes.

I am so sorry to see this devastation; I know you are a nation of people who will work your way through it all. In fact, my fear is that people may not give themselves time to grieve and rest. I have a great admiration for you, and the staff and volunteers of JOICFP, and JFPA and the many Japanese people that I have been privileged to meet with you. We will be thinking of you each day-as always-your friend.

My deepest condolences for the destruction and loss of life caused by the massive earthquake and tsunami. The scale and power of the forces unleashed on Japan are hard to comprehend and the images that that we have seen are terrifying. The accident in the nuclear plants remains to be a grave concern and I truly hope that the danger will be contained soon. As the situation continues to unfold, the people of Japan are in the thoughts and prayers of all UNFPA staff.
