| New ARH Project in Nicaragua
in Nicaragua
The JICA's "Project for Strengthening Adolescent
Reproductive Health (ARH) in Nicaragua" officially started
in November 2005 for four years.
From January 2006, JOICFP, entrusted by JICA, started implementing the model
project to improve ARH in two administrative regions (SILAIS),
with emphasis on reflecting experiences gained through this
to the national level.
The project:-
- Targets adolescents to take appropriate behavior with proper
knowledge of ARH, and to use quality, integrated health care
services
- Promotes a network of ARH among schools, regions, NGOs,
and the public healthcare sector
- Strengthens the management mechanisms of the Ministry of
Health and the target SILAIS to effectively implement ARH
activities.

JOICFP has great experience in community-operated projects,
and community participation, especially by adolescents themselves,
is an essential component of the Nicaragua project.
JOICFP, within the JICA's project framework, will cover
areas such as baseline evaluations; preparation of training
materials, IEC activities, and activity plans; promotion of
participation and strengthening of community networks; delivery
of training; and evaluation of outcomes.

Young children, such as these, often have to help
with family business,
taking them away from school and RH education
The project also aims to create a supportive environment
that encourages good RH practice.
