Japan at 50 in the UN

On 18th December 1956, Japan entered the United Nations. On 24th October 2006, UN Day, Japan celebrated 50 years of UN membership at an event held in UN University, Tokyo.

The event highlighted the relationship between Japan and the UN, and how it can evolve in the future.

In a session entitled "Global Cooperation and Japan in the UN," Nafis Sadik, Board of Directors, UNF, mentioned JOICFP and another Japanese NGO for their active work in the field of population and reproductive health with the UNFPA.

JOICFP was also highlighted in a session on "Field Operations of the UN and Japan," by Kiyoko Ikegami, Director, UNFPA, Japan.

UN Secretary-General's message

A message from Kofi Annan, UN Secretary-General, mentioned the progress in addressing issues such as HIV/AIDS, but that a lot still needed to be done, for example, to achieve the MDGs.

These are areas in which JOICFP is able to effectively direct its energies and expertise.
