Expanding RH in Vietnam

In January 2007, under JICA's "Project for Capacity Building for Dissemination of Community-Based Reproductive Health (RH) Promotion Approach," (October 2006 - October 2009) orientation workshops were held in Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa and Ha Tinh Provinces for members of the project implementing committees.

Committee members gathered for the orientation
in Ninh Binh Province

In each of the four provinces, around 60 members gathered from all the three target districts and 12 communes, representing the People's Committee, health sector (District and Commune Health Centers), and Women's Union.

The Reproductive Health CareiRHCjCenter of Nghe An Province, in collaboration with the RHC centers in respective provinces , explained the project and the role of the committee members, emphasizing the importance of commitment for successful implementation.

Dr. Nguyen Ba Tan, Director, Nghe An RHC Center, and project manager, encouraged the active involvement of the participants in project activities, presenting the experiences in Nghe An with JICA.

Following orientation in January 2007, the first 'training of trainers' (TOT) was conducted at Nghe An RHC Center to share management know-how in promoting sustainable RH services.

The TOT sessions constantly involved participants in discussions, group work, presentations, role-plays, etc., and these methods that encourage active communication among participants and organizers were very much appreciated.

Twenty-four participants from RHC Centers, the Provincial Women's Union and District Prevention Centers of four provinces will be trainers upon return to their respective areas.
