| Long Live the Japanese - and
They're Living Longer
A Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare report, released
1st March, shows that life expectancy in Japan in 2005 rose
to 85.52 years for women and 78.56 for men.
Compared to 2000, this is an increase of 0.92 years for women
and 0.84 for men.
The complete life table as it is called, is compiled from
the national census conducted every five years.
The data mean that Japanese women have the longest life expectancy
in the world, ahead of those in Hong Kong and Spain, while
Japanese men are ranked fourth, behind men in Hong Kong, Iceland
and Switzerland.
