Thirty-six percent of women aged 15–49 in Zambia have experienced physical violence at least once since the age of 15, and 18% have experienced physical violence in the 12 months prior to the survey. Furthermore, child marriage and teenage pregnancy remain significant challenges. This underscores the need not only for the promotion of Comprehensive Sexuality Education for the young people but also for greater understanding and support from adults.
This project aims to build on the experience of previous gender-based violence (GBV) prevention initiatives to protect young people from GBV and teenage pregnancy, increase access to adolescent health services and care, and promote awareness-raising activities for gender equality, GBV, and teenage pregnancy prevention in Copperbelt Province. It also seeks to establish care and SRH service systems for GBV victims and strengthen livelihood skill initiatives to support the economic empowerment of communities, including young people.
