Message from JOICFP
Please lend us a hand to support women in the hardest hit areas of Japan.A 9.0 magnitude earthquake, which is the largest to hit Japan in recorded history, occurred in the north-east of the country on March 11th.
It was followed by a series of strong aftershocks as well as triggering a massive tsunami, which has destroyed most cities and villages on the north-east coast of Japan.
JOICFP has decided to support people in the hardest hit areas of Japan, especially girls and women in this difficult time. Although we are primarily an international cooperation organization, this disaster has affected us all in the country to the level where we all need to come together as one and work towards recovery.
As we see so much international support arriving and warm messages from friends, we realize that we are not alone and our well being is supported by all the people in the world. We would like to act on behalf of your kind support extended from all over the world, to girls, women and mothers in the disaster affected areas.
JOICFP will focus on MDG5, improving maternal health, responding to reproductive health (RH) needs of women and mothers in affected areas, which is most often overlooked in disaster relief activities.
We plan to distribute relief supplies, such as diapers, sanitary napkins, and relief clothing for women and newborns to meet their daily needs. We will also support healthcare activities, such as providing healthcare services for mothers and newborns. All the support activities will be conducted in collaboration with local midwives, who have been working very closely with the communities.
Thank you and best regards,
Sumie Ishii
