On 25th and 26th February, funeral ceremonies were held in Tokyo for Yoshiko Kunii, the wife of the late Chojiro Kunii, one of the founders of JOICFP. Yoshiko Kunii was 85 and died of organ failure. She is not survived by any children.

In a speech to the Kunii's relatives, friends and colleagues, Yasuo Kon, Chairperson, JOICFP, recalled first meeting Yoshiko Kunii at her marriage to Chojiro Kunii in 1946. He said that she had worked closely with her husband at the start of the cooperative movement, which promoted parasite control, family planning, preventive medicine and international cooperation.

Born in Tokyo, Kon stated that Yoshiko provided balance for Chojiro, who had been born in Fukushima prefecture. It was her business and management skills that harmoniously helped support Chojiro's pioneering health and welfare activities, he said.
