Chinese Visitors Study Japanese Experience on Ageing

Ageing is now recognized as a social issue in China that needs attention since by 2040 one in four people will be over 65.

From 26th to 30th September, a 12-member Chinese team visited Japan to learn about experiences in population and ageing, social security, and reproductive health and family planning (RH/FP).

The team comprised representatives from the National Population and Family Planning Commission (NPFPC), nine provincial PFPCs and Family Planning Associations, and from UNFPA China Office, and came to Japan after a one-week study tour in Korea.

The visitors received lectures from various organizations, including JOICFP, the Japan Family Planning Association, the Japan Association of Health Services, and the Tokyo Health Service Association.

Professor Makoto Atoh, Faculty of Human Sciences, Waseda University, and former director National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, gave information to the team about population dynamics, current conditions of the elderly, social policies, and the social security system in Japan.
