Japanfs Official Development Assistance Budget Confirmed
As expected, Japanfs Official Development Assistance (ODA) budget has suffered another cut. The figure for 2006 was 759.7 billion yen, and for fiscal year 2007 (1st April 2007 to 31st March 2008), it is 729.3 billion yen, a cut of four percent.
Thanks to the efforts of MPs and relevant government officials though, the UNFPA has actually received an increase, up from 3.8 billion yen in 2006 to 3.97 billion, an increase of over four percent.
However, due to currency depreciation, the amount is the same in US dollar terms.
IPPF will receive the same funding as last year; 1.48 billion yen.
JOICFP holds one of the key roles in advocacy for maintaining the total amount of ODA, and keeping Japan as a leading country on the international stage.
