Podcast Raises Awareness and Funds to Fight AIDS and Discrimination

On 1 st December 2007, World AIDS Day, a podcast in association with media organization CLUB KING Japan, saw a presentation of the stories of two mothers living with HIV/ AIDS from JOICFP's ATOMM Project in Ghana and Zambia .

The stories were followed by a talk among Sumie Ishii, Executive Director, JOICFP, and two Japanese mothers, who discussed the stories of these African mothers.

The stories, translated into Japanese, were used to raise awareness of the harsh realities of PLWHA in developing countries, and encourage the public to support JOICFP in its mission.

Funds raised from AIDS Day activities in 2006 were used in Zambia to provide goats to HIV-positive women. The goats were bred and sold for livestock and meat, thereby providing an income.

Many women who are HIV-positive find it difficult to earn a living, and JOICFP wants to show how empowering them also empowers the communities in which they live.
