The United Nations Population
Fund (UNFPA) was established first as the United
Nations Trust Fund on Population Activities in 1967,
and began its activities under the new name of United
Nations Fund on Population Activities (UNFPA) in
1969. The name was changed again in 1987 to the
United Nations Population Fund, which is used today.
The UNFPA is administered with voluntary contributions
from member states. Japan is one of the largest
contributors.
